Scouting Verdict
Four schools, three straight 500-yard seasons, one last stop. Sowell brings a vagabond résumé to Penn State with the kind of repeatable production that survives changing quarterbacks and playbooks — 622 yards at East Carolina, 678 more at nearly 20 a catch, then 500 in his lone Iowa State season. At 6-3, 203 with a career average north of 13 in three consecutive years, he is a vertical size receiver whose game has traveled everywhere it has been asked to. The portal market rated him highly and Penn State projects him as its WR1. However, he has never caught more than 47 balls in a season and has topped 11 games just once in four years, and a fifth-year receiver on his fourth roster must prove chemistry can be built in a single offseason. There is no projection padding left; the 2026 tape decides it. A featured season in a contending offense earns a late Day 3 look in 2027, but the realistic center of the range is priority free agent with genuine size-and-ball-tracking appeal.
