Scouting Notes

Vertical-seam tight end who stretches defenses at a size — 6-5, 257 — that is not supposed to average 15.9 a catch. Johnson turned 32 receptions into 510 yards and three scores in his first Oregon season after a quiet Louisville start, and the per-catch number is the tell: this is a genuine downfield weapon, not a checkdown collector. He turned down real 2026 draft interest to return as the Ducks' TE1, and the 2027 boards responded — late first-round mocks and a TE1 tag in the class from PFN. However, he named the missing pieces himself: blocking, footwork and route detail are self-admitted work-ons, and 45 career catches is a modest sample for a player being mocked into Round 1 territory. Day 2 grade with the receiving profile already pro-caliber; the in-line blocking tape decides whether the first-round conversation is real or just a silhouette scouts fell for.
