Scouting Verdict
The kind of receiver a defense has to acknowledge before it can do anything else. Smith walked into Ohio State and posted 76-1315-15 as a true freshman, then answered with 87 catches for 1,243 and 12 scores in 2025 while every coordinator in the Big Ten schemed to take him away. At 6-3, 223 he wins on all three levels — the freshman-year 17.3 per catch shows the vertical dominance, and the volume year shows he can carry a passing game when everyone in the stadium knows where the ball is going. However, the efficiency dip from 17.3 to 14.3 yards per catch is worth watching; brackets shrunk his deep production, and 2026 should show whether he beats doubles or just absorbs them. Consensus No. 1 non-QB in the 2027 class, and nothing in the production argues otherwise — a top-of-Round-1 pick the moment he is eligible.
