Scouting Notes

A blue-chip receiver whose recruiting billing finally met the tape in a genuine 2025 breakout. Matthews caught 53 balls for 813 yards and four scores across 13 games, a leap from a seven-catch injury-shortened debut, and the 15.3-yard average shows he is more than a possession piece; the five-star (No. 24 overall) pedigree, the every-game availability and the ascending production line up as a real prospect profile. He wins with route polish and run-after-catch juice out of a 6-1, 200 frame. The honest doubt is the ceiling ceiling: the boards have him as an R2-caliber receiver without first-round mocks, which tells me evaluators want another year of separation-versus-press evidence and a bigger contested-catch sample before the grade jumps. NFLDraftBuzz slots him WR14 for 2027. Projects as a Day 2 receiver with a starter's route tree and clear WR2-or-better upside.
