Scouting Notes

Ballhawk safety who went from unrated recruit to Freshman All-American in one ten-game burst. Johnson's 2025 line — four interceptions and seven passes defensed alongside 48 tackles — is real takeaway production from a first-year starter in Notre Dame's secondary, and at a rangy 6-2, 200 he fits the modern free-safety template the Irish keep sending out. The interception rate is what drives this grade: multiple 2027 first-round mocks (ESPN's Jordan Reid at No. 27 among them) already treat him as the next star of the pipeline, and a summer top-200 board had him 22nd. However, the honest read is that this is one season of evidence with no recruiting pedigree underneath it, and a 2027 declaration would mean turning pro after two starting years — the ball production has to survive a season of quarterbacks throwing away from him. Round 1 caliber on the arc; the sample is the risk.
