Scouting Notes

Veteran cover man betting his draft stock on a position change. Gray owns three years of corner production at Notre Dame — the 2024 run to the title game brought 35 tackles, 3 interceptions and 9 breakups, and even the lighter 2025 produced 10 PDs and 2 more picks in 11 games — and now the staff is sliding him inside to solve its annual nickel search. Nineteen breakups and 5 interceptions over the last two seasons say the ball skills are real, and at least one draft analyst has publicly blessed the move as the right call. However, the 2025 tackle count (17) is light for a player about to live in the slot, where traffic tackling and run support stop being optional. The transition is the whole 2026 evaluation: handle it and he is a versatile Day 3 pick in the 2027 class with three-spot value; struggle and the profile is a boundary corner without boundary size.
