Scouting Notes

The next name off Iowa's interior offensive line conveyor belt — an 1,800th-ranked recruit turned PFF All-American center on a Joe Moore Award-winning unit. Pieper plays the position the way the program teaches it, and the industry has noticed: Phil Steele first-team preseason All-America, Walter Camp preseason honors, and PFF projecting him as the first interior lineman off the board in 2027. At 6-4, 290 he is built for the phone-booth work Iowa asks of its interior, and the flexibility between guard and center only strengthens the draft case. However, 290 pounds is light for an NFL interior, and adding mass without losing the movement skills is the offseason assignment — DraftScout's dissenting 2028 projection says at least one evaluator wants to see another year of it. Iowa's offensive line pedigree buys him benefit of the doubt few programs earn. Fringe-Round 1 conversation, firmly top of Day 2 in the 2027 class.
