Scouting Notes

Iowa's tackle assembly line has a new product rolling off it. Lauck's first season as the starting left tackle produced an 89.6 PFF pass-blocking grade — second among all FBS tackles — plus second-team Phil Steele All-America honors and a No. 38 slot in CBS's early 2027 mock. That is Day 2 evidence from a player who was the No. 439 recruit two cycles ago, and it comes at the position and the program pro scouts trust most on the offensive line. However, it is exactly one season of starting tape, and one elite pass-protection grade inside Iowa's run-heavy structure leaves the sample thinner than the ranking suggests — the number to re-verify in 2026 is whether that 89.6 holds against the Big Ten's best speed rushers or settles back to merely good. Day 2 grade in the 2027 class, and the late-first-round steam already in print becomes believable if the encore matches the debut.
