The kind of production breakout that reorders a draft board: after two years buried behind Vandegrift and North Texas depth charts, Mestemaker seized the Mean Green job in 2025 and led all of FBS with 4,379 passing yards on 68.9 percent accuracy, 34 touchdowns to nine picks and a 168.7 rating. He drives the ball with anticipation and layers throws over the middle, and the five rushing scores show a passer who'll take the free yards without building his game on them. National evaluators have him as an early first-round name in the 2027 class, QB3 in some rooms behind Arch Manning and Dante Moore. However, this is one season of separation from a Group of Five defense, and the jump to Big 12 speed at Oklahoma State is the whole projection — the ceiling is real, but so is the sample-size question on a passer who was a backup fifteen months ago. Command and accuracy carry a Round 1-caliber grade; the Power-4 slate will confirm or complicate it.
