Sturdy, run-first quarterback at 230 pounds who plays bully-ball in the pocket and doubles the run game as a true freshman, piling up 3,033 passing yards, 15 touchdowns and 527 rushing yards with 11 scores on the ground. Bachmeier commanded a Big 12 offense as a first-year starter and showed the arm and the legs to carry a scheme. That production for a young passer is genuinely rare, and the ceiling is a high one. However, the sample is a single season, the touchdown rate is modest for the volume, and seven picks against 15 scores says the decision-making still needs reps — the number to trust more is a second-year efficiency jump. The turnover-to-touchdown ledger and downfield accuracy are what to watch in 2026. True-freshman eligibility keeps a pro projection years out; the grade reflects real production and a high ceiling on a developing arm, with a Day 3-and-up range if the passing sharpens.
