Scouting Notes

One of the sport's most complete true-freshman quarterback seasons that nobody fully priced: 3,454 yards and 18 touchdowns at 64.2 percent, a PFF All-Freshman nod, and full command of a Power-4 offense from day one. At 6-3, 225 he has the frame and the volume-production base, and Sports Illustrated is already asking whether he is Cal's next first-round pick — for the 2028 class, his earliest window. The blemishes are freshman blemishes, but they are real: 9 interceptions, a modest 18-touchdown return on 492 attempts, and minus-120 rushing yards that say the sack-and-scramble math ran against him all year. The touchdown rate is the number to fix — high-volume, low-score passing seasons flatter arms more than offenses. Two full seasons of runway remain; today this is a Day 3-track arm with an 8.5 ceiling if the efficiency jumps in 2026.
