Scouting Notes

The recruiting profile still outranks the production. A top-275 four-star out of Bishop Gorman, Lofton owns Miami's TE1 job after a 23-catch, three-touchdown 2025 — modest raw numbers, but more than double his 2024 usage, and enough for the beat coverage to keep declaring a breakout imminent. The versatility is the pro-facing trait: move-tight-end deployment, red-zone usage, and a 6-3, 242-pound frame that fits the modern flex role. However, a 9.5-yard average on those 23 catches is checkdown territory for a player recruited as a downfield mismatch, and his season ended with a frightening Fiesta Bowl injury that cost him the national championship game — health and a real target-volume jump both have to show before the pedigree cashes. Fringe grade on a 2028 timeline, and the timeline is the saving grace: two more seasons to turn 23 catches into 45 and make the breakout talk retroactively right.
